Samantha Johnson is a Senior graduating in December, 2022. She transferred to Florida International University in Spring 2021 to pursue her Bachelor in Arts Degree in Sustainability and the Environment with a minor in Marine Biology. She is passionate about the environment and making a change in the world around her.

During her time at FIU, Samantha has been involved in many different environmentally based clubs including Panthers Protecting the Ocean, the Garden Club, the Soustainability Club, G.L.A.D.E.S., and the Society for Women in Marine Science. She is also a member of the FIU Honors College, Tau Sigma Honor Society, and National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

During Fall 2022, Samantha has been a Teaching Assistant for a FIU Honors course called "Miami in Miami" where she has attended all class meetings, assisted in research for class lectures, and earned real life teaching experience in the field while learning about the history and culture of Miami. Samantha is also a Ghost Tour Guide and Museum Docent at the Deering Estate, a position she learned about through her connections she has made at the FIU Honors College. She is also a Millennium Fellow working to reduce the use of plastics on campus and promoting sustainability through up-cycling and sustainable art. She is currently completing a micro-credential in the Fundamentals of Climate Leadership and will be graduating with this status as well.

Samantha has a heart for environmental education and loves to teach others about the environment and the world they live in. She is hoping to work as an educator this January at the Florida Oceanographic Society in Stuart, FL, where she will stay until she begins her masters degree next fall. She is also hoping to attend Florida State University and pursue a masters degree in Aquatic Environmental Science, further growing her understanding for the world around her and making a difference in that environment. In her future career, Samantha wants to pursue research in either the fields of environmental science or marine biology, and specifically study climate change and our effects on the planet. However, she would ideally love to find a job that allows her to merge her love for research, environmental education, and interest in policy.
