During my time at FIU, I have taken many different Global Learning Courses. Many were required for my degree, but there were several that I took as an elective because they sounded interesting! I have highlighted a few on this page, and I hope you enjoy reading about them because I thoroughly enjoyed taking these classes myself.

Miami in Miami

Miami in Miami is a year-long FIU Honors College course. It teaches students about the "real" Miami. Throughout this course, we go to a different location in Miami every week and are immersed in the culture and history of this city that we call Miami. As someone who transferred to FIU and whose parents were unsure of me coming to school down here, this course opened my eyes past the stigmatism that surrounds this incredible city. I have learned more about life and living through this course than I have anywhere else. took this class in Fall 2021 to Spring 2022, and now have the pleasure of being a Teaching Assistant for the Fall 2022 course.

The main assignment in this class is called your "Miami as Text", which showcases your weekly experiences on a blog for everyone to see. I have included my "Miami as Text" below for you to enjoy, and see Miami through my eyes. The other major assignment in this course is your "Ineffable Miami", which is Miami as seen through the eyes of the students in the Miami in Miami course. It provides each student with the opportunity to create an academic travel guide to a neighborhood of Miami. Extensive research of the area is required, and it allows students to learn more outside what is being taught in class. I have included the link to my Ineffable Miami project as well.
